Tropical Food Market (Cuban Restaurant) Restaurant

Overview

If you're looking for a taste of authentic Cuban cuisine right in the heart of Key West, Tropical Food Market is the place to be. Located at 5636 3rd Ave, Key West, FL 33040, this charming Cuban restaurant offers a delightful mix of traditional dishes and fresh, local ingredients that will transport your taste buds straight to the vibrant streets of Havana.

Walking into Tropical Food Market, you immediately feel the warmth of Cuban culture. The restaurant’s lively atmosphere and colorful decor set the stage for a dining experience that's both casual and inviting. The friendly staff greets you with a smile and is eager to walk you through the menu, which is packed with flavorful options that highlight the essence of Cuban cooking.

The menu at Tropical Food Market is a celebration of Cuba's rich culinary history. For starters, their Cuban sandwich is a must-try. This sandwich is everything you want: crispy on the outside, with a perfect blend of ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. It's a straightforward classic, but there's something about the way it's prepared here that makes it stand out. The flavors meld together beautifully, offering a satisfying balance of savory and tangy.

If you're in the mood for something heartier, the Ropa Vieja is a fantastic option. This shredded beef dish is slow-cooked to perfection, absorbing all the rich flavors of tomato, onions, bell peppers, and a variety of spices. The tender beef practically melts in your mouth, and when paired with a side of white rice and black beans, it's the kind of comfort food that feels like a home-cooked meal.

Another popular choice is the Lechón Asado, a marinated, slow-roasted pork that is crispy on the outside while remaining juicy and tender on the inside. The seasoning is spot on, with a blend of garlic, citrus, and Cuban spices that give the pork its distinct, mouthwatering flavor. Pair this with fried plantains, and you've got a plate that truly showcases the heart and soul of Cuban cuisine.

For those seeking something lighter or vegetarian, the Tostones (fried green plantains) are a great choice. These crispy bites are golden on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly salted. They're served with a zesty garlic dipping sauce that adds an extra punch to the flavor.

One of the standout elements of Tropical Food Market is its commitment to freshness. Ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible, ensuring that every dish is prepared with the best produce and meats available. This attention to quality is evident in every bite, and it elevates the overall dining experience.

While the food takes center stage, the drink menu is also worth mentioning. Cuban mojitos are a specialty here, and for good reason. With fresh mint, lime, rum, and a touch of sweetness, the mojito is the perfect way to unwind and complement the bold flavors of your meal. If you're in the mood for something a little different, their Guarapo (sugar cane juice) is a refreshing, non-alcoholic option that captures the essence of Cuba’s tropical charm.

The service at Tropical Food Market is top-notch, with the staff being not only knowledgeable about the menu but also passionate about sharing the stories behind the dishes. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you'll feel like part of the family as you enjoy your meal.

Location-wise, Tropical Food Market offers a convenient and welcoming spot in Key West, a city known for its laid-back vibe and diverse culinary scene. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this Cuban restaurant should definitely be on your radar if you're craving a true taste of the island’s flavors.

If you’re looking for authentic Cuban food in Key West, Tropical Food Market is a must-visit. With a menu full of bold, flavorful dishes, a cozy atmosphere, and excellent service, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely meal with friends or family. The best not to forget! This whole in the wall located close to the entrance to Keywest family own restaurant has it going on. Food is ready to be served, you can pick a complete course fast and easy when you are on the run or not. A great variety on home made food, Drinks, juices and coffee. I also had breakfast the next day and man everything was great. The best cafe con leche in town people. Fantastic place.

Great tasting food and good serving portions. The first time we had breakfast (taste their Cuban Bread... is amazing) and it was so tasty! And for dinner, we had the best tasting beefsteak with white rice and galvanzos. Huge portion, delicious taste. This is a must if you're going or staying in Key West. Loved the latin vibe and their service. 5 Stars

I rode my bike to Stock Island for the exercise and to enjoy a Cuban lunch meal. They serve Breakfast and Lunch only. The well seasoned beef short ribs, beans with rice and ripe fried plantains satisfied my hunger. Vhuntermassage LLC

Unassuming little diner hidden back in a semi industrial area. Worth looking for it. Best Cuban food I ever had. The real deal! Had the brown rice/black beans, yuca and pork. Was so good I had to order another to take home. Seriously....eat there. If you dig good, good food with no pretensions, this is the place.

Extremely delicious, authentic and yet affordable Cuban cuisine. This is my go-to morning spot for a strong Colada and some bacon and grits.
